The Circle of Security® Parenting™ program is based on decades of research about how secure parent-child relationships can be supported and strengthened. At times as parents, we all feel lost or without a clue about what our child might need from us. Imagine what it might feel like if you were able to make sense of what your child was really asking from you.
Circle of Security® Parenting™ is an eight-session series that guides you through new ways to understand and respond to your child’s behaviour. The program was developed to help you notice ways to connect with your children. The focus is on supporting safe, responsive and protective relationships between children and the people that care for them.
Each week you will learn to:
A compassionate, no-blame approach allows parents to feel supported, regardless of their personal and parenting history. Each week, you will view video content and there will be group discussions to explore your thoughts and beliefs about parenting and children. You will reflect on:
The program is designed for caregivers (parents, foster parents, legal guardians, grandparents) of children aged 6 months to 8 years. However, as our need for secure relationships remains throughout the lifespan, parents and caregivers of all aged children will benefit from attending. Circle of Security has been adapted for older children and even teenagers, so no matter the age of your child/ren, it is never too late to learn Circle of Security.

Do I need to attend every Circle of Security Parenting session?
Attendance at each session is required to get the full benefits and receive a certificate. This is because the content, learning and concepts are built and expanded on at each session across the eight weeks.
I understand that life is full of unexpected challenges – please let me know if something comes up for you and you are unable to make a session so we can make exceptional alternative arrangements.
Can I Bring my Baby / Child
Unfortunately there are no creche facilities available and to ensue that you can get the most out of the course and have some time to "fill your cup" please arrange for childcare while you complete the course.
What if I don’t have regular contact with my child?
A significant part of Circle of Security Parenting is reflective group discussion. Each week between sessions, you will be asked to observe your child’s behavior and your own responses and interactions with your child, then reflect on what you have learned.
It is possible for you to gain skills, knowledge and confidence by being part of this program if you do not have regular contact with your child/ren. However, we encourage you to discuss your family situation before enrolling to find out whether this group is the best fit for you.
A tour of the Circle in about four minutes.
Parenting is hard work, the toughest job out there. As parents we all have the best intentions, we all make mistakes. The good news is research shows us it is NEVER TOO LATE to start parenting to facilitate secure attachment. Our children may take a little time to respond as they become used to the new way you start to parent, however, once the children know this new way is permanent, they trust it and you and respond with significant improvements for them and you.
So, what is Secure Attachment and how can you do it?
Having a secure relationship with our children is about learning from our mistakes rather than striving to get it right. After all, our kids will learn from their mistakes from learning from ours.
A securely attached child is a happy, trusting and confident one who feels safe and supported to explore their world and feels welcomed and delighted in when they come back to the safety you provide them. Circle of Security refer to this as going out on the top of the circle and coming back in on the bottom of the circle.
